Maybelline likes to emphasize in their ads for Great Lash mascara that it's the No.1 mascara in America. Normally, I'd dismiss this as a lot of hype, but in this case, I think it's true.
I got hooked on Great Lash in high school and can honestly say that in the years and years since then, I haven't found a drugstore mascara to rival it. There's a reason this mascara is constantly being brought up by celebs and in beauty polls, because it's just that awesome.
Hands down the best thing about Great Lash is that it's incredibly buildable. You can apply a single swipe for your "daytime" lash look, or add a few coats for more length and volume. It doesn't clump, doesn't flake, and doesn't give you those horrible "spider eyes" like some volumizing mascaras.
The color selections is nice, too--several shades of black and brown, as opposed to the standard black/blacker/blackest that some companies offer. For gals with lighter skin and hair, being able to select brown mascara is really helpful to avoid looking too harsh in the sunlight.
The tubes also seem to last and last--not like some formulas that start getting dry and clumpy not long after you open them. And on a technical note, the brush is an average spoolie--nothing big and scary--so it's easy to wield.
What makes the waterproof Great Lash so wonderful? It's the only waterproof drugstore formula I've tried that stays put all day yet comes off cleanly with waterproof makeup remover. Other formulas I've tried inevitably a) aren't completely waterproof, or b) are so difficult to remove that I end up losing eyelashes. Yikes!
I should also mention that most stores sell this mascara for $4-$5 per tube, which is pretty dirt cheap even for drugstore mascara. I've tried other formulas that were two or three times as expensive, and have always come back to Great Lash as my go-to mascara.
