Lightweight way to get a faux tan (Report Review)

I've had good luck with L'Oreal products over the years, and I've used the L'Oreal Sublime Bronze lotions with success in previous summers. A friend recommended I try the gel (or "gelee") formula as a lightweight alternative.
I'm not sure that I like this formula better than, or even as well as, the original lotions. It has many of the same attributes of the lotion; it absorbs more quickly than the lotion, so you feel that you don't have to stand there and air-dry for so long. It was non-greasy, and it dried to a nice, streak-free glow.
But using a gel versus a lotion is a little odd. I have dry skin and liked that while the lotion formula wasn't greasy, it did leave my skin feeling soft, like I'd applied my regular body lotion. The gel is very lightweight, but it's almost too lightweight if you're using this product during the winter, perhaps to prepare for a vacation. Unless you don't normally use lotion, you might be left feeling like you need to top it off with a good body lotion so your skin won't be dry all day.
This formula would be nice if you were using it during the summer, when it's super hot and humid and applying any type of lotion can feel like the beauty equivalent of tossing on a sweater. Then, I could see the gel being a better pick.
I think the gel would also be great if lotions were too thick for your face, or you wanted to put makeup on after applying--then the lightweight gel would be preferable.
Overall, at least while I'm "tanning" outside of the summer months, I think I'll stick to the lotion formula. It's not necessarily better, it's just a matter of personal preference.
