Good clear coat, nothing exceptional (Report Review)

Sally Hansen is one of the largest drugstore beauty chains you'll run into, and all they cover is nails! Well, not really; they also have a few items like lip gloss and tweezers, but their largest product collections cover all things nail related.
I love the Sally Hansen nail polish collections, and I'm also continually boggled by how many treatments, top coats, and clear nail polishes are offer. Hard as Nails is one of the older and most popular clear polishes from this company.
If you're looking for a nice, cheap clear coat to protect your nails, then this is a good pick. It's quick-drying, which is great if you're trying to gloss up your nails in a hurry before work or a date and don't have a lot of time to wait for them to dry. It also seems less pungent then some types of nail polish, which is a huge pro if you dislike the smell of nail polish (or live with someone that does!).
This product does seem to do a good job of protecting your nails and helping to strengthen them. It also makes a good base coat under regular nail polish, and helps prevent staining from dark colors.
But it doesn't work very well as a topcoat (I've tried it). If you're just looking to add a little gloss to your nail color, you might try a swipe of this, but it doesn't last at all. It isn't long-wearing enough on its own to begin with, and I've found that it chips away pretty quickly. As a topcoat, it won't do anything to protect your color at all.
If you're just looking for a cheap clear coat, then this is probably your best bet since it does offer some benefits with the formula. But for a topcoat, go with something with a little more staying power.
