Salon Style Highlights (Report Review)

When it comes time for me to add highlights to my hair, I look to Revlon Frost to add the highlights to my hair. Since I naturally have a darker hair color, I have to purchase the frosting highlight kits in order to get my hair to have highlights that look good. I hate to go to a salon to have highlights put into my hair since the expense is so high. The kit from Revlon will give you highlights that look like they came out of a salon.

Inside of the box of Revlon, you will find that there are easy to read instructions that will tell you step by step what to do. You usually will place a net on top of your head and then use a hook to pull the hair through the holes in the cap which will then be used to put the frosting highlights on. Once you have done this, your hair will need to sit for a set amount of time depending on the type of hair you have and the color of your hair.

You are going to have to check the box to see what color you want your hair to be and how long you will have to leave the highlights on in order to get good results. The highlights will then have to be washed out and then a conditioner will be put on your hair which makes it feel extra soft and shiny.

Before you purchase your frosting, you want to make sure that your kit is right for your color. There are a number of frosting kits that can be purchased to highlight your hair. The kits are inexpensive so if you have thicker hair or want more highlights, you simply purchase two boxes. If you give this brand a try, you will never go back to the other type of highlights again or you will never return to the salon again.
Pros:  Is salon style highlights
Cons:  Have to pull hair through a net to highlight the hair.
Not easy to use, and lightened way too much (Report Review)

When summer rolls around, lots of women like to get a few highlights in their hair to lighten up their overall look for summer. I went to the drugstore looking for a DIY kit, and found this Frost And Glow kit from Revlon.

The kit said "for dark brown hair", and my hair is actually light brown, so I assumed it would give me nice medium highlights--not bleach-blonde streaks. I've used kits for dark hair from Garnier and L'Oreal in the past and had good luck with them, so I figured this kit should work well for me also.

Well, it isn't easy to use at all. You're supposed to tie a plastic cap on your head and hook sections of hair through holes in the cap, so you can precisely apply highlights according to the patterns in the instruction booklet. This also prevents the dye from "bleeding" onto surrounding sections of hair.

There aren't enough words to describe how silly I felt trying to hook my hair through this cap. Eventually I gave up and just took the cap off, figuring I'd apply the dye directly to select strands.

I think the cap would work better on short hair, but the girl on the box had long hair like me, so I'm not really sure why there was a problem. In any case, applying the dye to a bare head wasn't much easier, with the tiny plastic spatula.

I set the timer according to the directions, and was horrified when I rinsed out my hair and realized that the dye had lightened up waaaay more than what it should have, according to the picture on the box. Not like the Garnier kit I used last summer!

Overall, I was really disappointed with this product, and I definitely won't be using it again.
Pros:  --Inexpensive
Cons:  --Not easy to use
--Lightened way too much
