Easy to Install (Report Review)

In our new home on the lake, it gets very cold in the winter. The house was being heated with electric radiators, so we decided we were going to get a wood stove to heat our lake home. This would alleviate the cost of heating the house significantly.

The first thing on the list was to acquire the woodstove; we bought a used one and manage to save half of the cost of a new stove. The next step was to measure the chimney length and decide what type of chimney to install. Its flue outlet was 6 inches, so we needed to get a 6 inch in diameter, 18 foot chimney that came to about 3 pieces of 48 inch lengths, plus the roof adaptor, so the fit was almost perfect considering the 3 feet extension off the roof of the house.

In the old days, chimneys were built with clay, but the more modern conventional chimneys today are made of alloy metals that do not rust and last longer. They are insulated properly so that the exterior skin of the chimney does not get overly hot and burn the house down. This type of chimney has been around for many years now have been proven over again.

The convenient part of installing was the ease of assembling the chimney and the actual diagrammed instructions that came with it. The hardest part was cutting holes in the ceiling and roof, it can be nerve racking because if you mess up on the hole cuts, you are left with a major patch job in your roof. Like they say, measure twice, cut once.

In any case, with the right tools and proper planning, the woodstove and chimney went up in less than a day. After 2 years of heating the house using wood, we have cut the cost of home heating by more than 20% on our electricity bills.
Pros:  Easy to install and radiates heat well.
